Mslexia Short Story Competition 2011
Mslexia have just announced their 2011 Women's Short Story Competition for women writers, and this year there is a fabulous first prize of £2,000!
In addition the first prize winner will also receive a day with a Virago editor and a week's writing retreat at Chawton House Library – home of early women's writing. Five other winners will also receive a cash prize – with £500 going to the second placed winner, £250 to the third, and three other finalists will each receive £100; plus all six winners will be published in issue 49 - the Apr/May/Jun 2011 issue of Mslexia.
Judging this year's competition is multi-award winning writer - Jackie Kay (pictured). Born and brought up in Scotland, Jackie now lives in Manchester; she has published short stories and poetry for adults and children, a novel, a memoir and a play. She was awarded an MBE in 2006 and is a fellow of The Royal Society of Literature and Professor of Creative Writing at Newcastle University.
Your story can be on any topic or theme, up to a maximum of 2,200 words, and must not have been published before. The closing date is Monday, 24th January 2011 and there is an entry fee of £10 per story. Please read all rules and regulations thoroughly before submitting your entry.
