My Heart's Triumphant Cry
Alison Johnson chose this months poem. She says of it, "I love this one for all manner of reasons - the rhythm, the way she manages the line breaks to add to the emphasis and meaning, and the emotion of the poem. Is she tongue in cheek, is she angry, is she cleverly putting herself in someone else's place. Wonderful!"

My Heart's Triumphant Cry
This day I will remember
As the first day in my life,
When I rose and realised
That I was now, no ones wife.
The feeling, the elation
Was a great exciting buzz.
Truly liberating, there
Would be no more of Us. I
Can come and go at leisure.
Buy without consent, all the
Fripperies a female wants
With complete abandonment.
Will this make me happier,
I won’t know till I try. But
I will go from strength to strength
Is my heart's triumphant cry.
