SAILORS ARE VERY STRANGE MEN
Sailors Are Very Strange Men
There once was an Admiral,
He had a daughter,
A daughter so young and so fair.
Many a matelot noted her beauty,
Ruby red lips, long golden hair,
There once was an Admiral,
He warned his dughter,
He told her again and again,
Don't you fall in love and marry a sailor,
'cos sailors are very strange men,
Yes, sailors are very strange men.
A sailor's a man,
Who makes love where he can,
And he's not to be seen the next day,
His love is undying,
But he'll leave you crying,
When his ship is sailing away.
He has wives on each shore, kids by the score,
The are mothers and lovers and whores,
With husbands a'grieving and fathers a'seething,
To see that strange sailor of yours,
Yes, to see that strange sailor of yours.
His home is a cabin, his bed is a hammock,
“All aboard”, he's invited you in,
He'll say “Belay” if he wants you to stay,
“Full ahead” when he wants to begin,
And when you hit the sack,
And you roll onto your back,
He'll turn you over again,
Distress flares will burn,
As he boards you astern,
'cos sailors are very strange men,
Yes, sailors are very strange men.
So the Admiral's daughter,
She married a sailor,
Who sailed away on the sea,
And throughout her years she shed no tears,
Saying “He's perfectly suited to me,
I don't see him for ages but I gets his wages,
So I have my nights on the town,
With the butcher, the baker,
The candlestick maker,
And sailors when they are around,
Yes, with sailors when they are around.”
