In Truth
This isn’t a poem, just something to ponder for those who consider themselves intellectually charged. There has been for a number of years now, a growing attitude of neo fascism that is beginning to lose control. It exists at a subliminal level, sometimes even without the protagonists knowing what they are saying and doing. We are all complicit in this to a certain extent, as we are now looking at content of individuals from a subconscious point of view. If for any particular reason, we have a grievance with an individual, we can at our own discretion, use all sorts of tools to discredit that individual, the subconscious becoming our new battleground. Freud may claim prize to being a founder of this, what was once a query into understanding human perceptions, has now become something to snatch onto, in defence of a particular viewpoint. It is also something we use, to undermine or ‘rubbish’ those we do not agree with. That is true of many of those who claim a higher understanding. But what this in essence does, is highlight those people to whom seek the manipulation of others, especially when it is used to bring about a certain opinion. We are all now aware that the subconscious exists, some try to harness it and use it for their gain. So where am I leading? In America, a black man in the past was called ‘nigger’ as a point of ridicule and emotional torture by those who sought to undermine him. For years he endured this abuse, and was victim to many appalling atrocities. In the modern day, a black-man can call his brother a nigger out of jest or colloquialism. And he knows all too well where it was derived from. But what has allowed him to do this, to look at this jibe and present it as comedy, is the many years of grief he has had to endure for all the oppression he has been through. He has grieved, (and still is grieving) and is allowing himself a little relaxation on a derogative comment that was used to discredit him. It is though, even to this day, a derogatory that has roots in so much suffering and sadness. But, he has been able to overcome this, and laugh at a lot of what is tongue in cheek about what many ignorant people claim is his culture. But it has taken him a great deal of grieving to be able to reach this point. America now has some very fine comedians of black origins such as Murphy, Cedric, The Wayans and Whoopie Goldberg to name but a few. If a white man chooses to call a black man a nigger in America though, it still has an element of racism, because there are those that use history as a subversive element knowing where its origins come from. A man, has to understand a man, to be able to identify whether he is being affectionate, or racist in the use of this term. Mel Brooks is a comedian of Semitic origins, who has for many years also been able to laugh about a lot of his culture and race. He has offended many of his own peoples because of the lengths he has gone to, to try and break down barriers, and imbue upon the world that like you, the Jewish community, are just human. There are those within the Jewish community that have backed him vigorously for his talent and intellect, and many are able to do this, because they have for many decades, been able to grieve, and overcome the atrocities that have plagued there peoples from a long time ago. But even within their community, there are those whom suffer so much despair for all that Hitler did unto them. Auschwitz, was one of Mankinds worst atrocities through history. And is something that I as a human fail to understand. Not only was it genocide, but there were also experimentations carried out there that are not spoke of to this day, experiments on people. I have read several texts from those who have spent time in this camp. One such text tells the tale of a woman and her baby. At first the baby would not stop screaming because of hunger. For several days this went on. The mother, clutching the baby, through fatigue eventually fell asleep while holding the child. When she woke, the young infant had gnawed away at their own fist until the flesh had gone from the top of the hand and knuckles. There are countless stories, all true, of the horrors endured at these camps. Yet even today, it sickens us so much that humanity did this to itself, that there are those trying to re-write history and deny these events happened. There are many, so many, still enduring atrocities that have happened to them, so where do you draw the line in comedy? Where? Freud was not present in Auschwitz, neither were we. Are we now to understand that we can now contain Auschwitz, in texts that mention ‘Golden Showers’ (pissing on people)? There are so many reasons why the banality of evil slips dormant acorns of deceit in people’s minds, so many. But none of it will register with you, none of it, because no matter how many spectacles you adorn to make an intellectual standpoint, you remain blind to the tears of others. When the Jewish people, are openly grieving, when they have come to terms with all that has happened to them, when Mel Brooks himself leads the way in being able to overcome this tragedy, then it may be sociologically acceptable, to write of their experiences in humorous texts. But let them lead the way. And never forget, what you write in shadows will be illuminated when the light falls on you.
