The past is the present (was supposed to read this at warwick words on 24/2/2011 but didn't for some reason)
The past is the present
The past is the present, the present is the past
As nothing is forever and nothing lasts
We're from the past but the time is now
We can remember so clearly that memory that made us frown
But if we can remember that memory today
That means it's in the present as it is on display
There's that one experience that we've all had
Which some may consider good and some may consider bad
We think it's in the back of our mind
But it affects our decisions and chooses our sides
Nothing is as it ever seems
As the past haunts us in our dreams
Noetic-fret!

Hi Charlene, your words are right. So many people walk around as casualties from experiences they have been through, in childhood and later on in life. All these experiences mold who we are in the present. Still though, many people are reluctant to admit this fact. There is cause and effect for everything. The hard part comes when realizing this; the negotiation of coming to terms with bad experience, and who you would like to project yourself as in the future. I really feel sorry for you in many ways, you're only seventeen and these words instill upon the reader a very real concern that at your age, you don't seem to have had a very good experience of your younger years. I wish that more people understood this, perhaps then we would realize that we are all in many ways casualties from previous years, and we can then look upon each other as equals, extend a hand of freindship to one another and disengage from the perpetuation of abuse that has plagued this world before we were ever born.
Nice work Charlene and a top poem, and wrote in such a way that the reader, instead of trying to identify your own personal experiences; looks within and can locate and identify with what you have written. Clever and responsible and very thoughtful.
You're not alone in your experiences. Keep hope for your future.
much love
mike
