Friday Night Writers make their bow

entry picture

Friday Night Writers – on 13 May - is one of London’s newest events for book launches, readings and open mics, at Swiss Cottage library art gallery. If you read your poetry or prose in the open mic session at each event you’ll have a chance to submit to the annual Friday Night Anthology, published by Ward Wood. The first anthology will appear in June 2012 from this year’s readings.

It isn’t just for London writers –  bookings so far include north of England writers David Cooke, Keith Armstrong, Andrew Oldham and Ian Parks. They also have Noel Duffy and Shauna Busto-Gilligan coming from Ireland, plus debut headliner Mike Horwood from Finland. London writers in the coming months include Peter Phillips, Peter Daniels (winner of the Times Literary Supplement contest), and novelist and poet Sue Guiney.

Doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start. The first event will present poet and novelist Mike Horwood plus open mic. All work read can be submitted to the Friday Night Writers Anthology. Non-writers are also welcome. There will be plenty of time to socialise and make friends with like-minded people. Admission is free with a small donation to the library if you would like wine. There’s also a library cafe for coffee and other refreshments.

If you would like to read then bring a poem up to 40 lines or short prose up to 1,000 words. Flash fiction and prose poetry up to 500 words will be especially welcome. Or how about a haibun? Just put down your name as you arrive. To be considered for the anthology put your contact details on your poem or prose and leave it with organisers at the end of the event.

Friday Night Writers is organised by North London author and publisher Adele Ward.  Swiss Cottage library has disabled access. Contact: adele@wardwoodpublishing.co.uk
