Haikus from the 1st Test England v Sri Lanka 2011

Cook hooks, breaks his duck,

Adds four to England's score:

Great bat, a class act.

In tests, Strauss's nous

Makes him permanent leader,

Not acting captain.

Trott's hot: got the lot.

Not flashy like Pietersen

But better batter.

Pietersen's neater

Now that Brylcreem's in his hair:

Knocks the girls for six.

Bell had a lean spell.

Now he's noted for batting

Faster than Gatting!

Morgan's Eoin us

Plenty of runs this summer:

Pure Irish magic.

Broad's scored a hundred

Now he's matched it with wickets

In test-match cricket.

In his first over,

His spinners often have them

Singing their Swann song.

Tremlett tempts the edge

As they're frightened by his height:

More bounce to the ounce.

Anderson's side strain

Won't restrain him long, we hope:

Essential bowler.

Finn's not in; he's out.

Twelfth man serving up the drinks:

A tall order.

Thanks, Rodney,

Glad you liked it.

As a "newbie" to the site, I'm feeling my way in - not sure what will go down well. Some of my material like this may get posted because it is "of the moment" rather than for its correctness.

By Haiku, I mean Haiku format 5-7-5 rather than strict Haiku content - just wait till you see one of my "sonnets", a format I also overuse often inappropriately!

I'm not even going to start a discussion about what is or is not a haiku because I loved it.
