Bob of the Bowery drops in for Welsh visit
Renowned American poet Bob Holman, who founded the legendary Bowery Poetry Club in New York, is headlining at The Absurd Presents … at Clwyd Theatr Cymru in Mold, north Wales on Tuesday night.
It will be his only UK date during a two-week visit when he intends, it is said, to learn Welsh. Holman, master of slam and hip hop, will be joined by Bangor poet Martin Daws, who combines modern poetry with hip hop lyricism, free jazz and fiction. He was runner-up in the John Tripp award for spoken poetry 2007, and second in the Glastonbury festival grand slam 2008.
Also on the bill is Rachel Rose Reid, an award-winning writer, performer and storyteller, who has performed across the worlds top arts festivals, at the Barbican and Soho theatres in London, and was previously named UK Young Storyteller of the Year.
For the first time the Absurd evening will begin with an open floor slot for anyone to come along and perform to a theatre audience. There are limited spaces for this of just five minutes each and this will run from 7.30pm to 8pm. Slots will be given on a first-come first-serve basis. Entry: £6/£5. Doors open at 7pm. Map
