Everyone Wins
How guiltless are any of us?
Each and all with an opinion
Of trying to convince others by guile or deception
Of our naïve imaginings.
Who amongst us is innocent?
Free of manipulation and bullying
Of persuading the unwilling that ours
Is the knowledge that is right.
Doubt not the strength or our
Conviction to be right all the time
Believing ours is the wisdom that brings all mankind
To enlightenment.
There is great satisfaction for a Master
In teaching the Pupil a lesson,
A great happiness in winning
To put an argument over.
Yet how naïve are all of us?
Not to realise that if the Master always wins,
Then the pupil is left in sadness
And a wonderful lesson never learnt.
For though it brings great happiness
For someone to always win,
It brings even greater happiness
For the Master to let the Pupil win.
Have we not learnt yet?
That the Master never loses,
For if he lets the Pupil win then both shall win
And that, is the real learning.
