Wishful Thinking
by J. Otis Powell!
Silent wisdom arrested
My tongue
So I said nothing
Until something you said
Reminded me of what
I forget most days
Inspiration comes
Of a sullen
And when it’s gone
We’re changed
Dear Dawn
Time has lengthened
In your absence
I missed you before
We met
I didn’t know
How could I
Your eyes are still in the palms
Of my hands finding
Lines you missed
When we were in shadows
And candle light
Where you saw rivers
Instead of sand washes
I noticed you
In a dimly lit hallway
Your image
Glowed
I felt a touch of soul
The majesty of you turns
Pages like revolving doors
Imagination is running
To the embrace
Of your hue
Your legacy of
Auburn ringlets
Your dance
Your story
Your gaze
Dear Dawn
Dear morning
Dear Sun of divinity
You are why we pray
There is no prescription
For medicine
You administer
No diagnosis for
Sickness you heal
But I know I’ve been touched
And am better than I was
From now on
You’re in the river
Coursing through me
