Is This Love (Revised)

entry picture

art credit: Jennifer Davis

“I have seen it play out in my own life; the deliciousness of the pain of desire, and the slow decay of flowers, dying because I tried to bring that beauty into my house. Love is wild, and must remain in the wild lands of soul, and heart, and holiness. Does that mean my greatest loves are to remain un-crossable distances from me?” Elizabeth Dwyer

 Is This Love

We carry issues in backpacks

Full of the things we are

Injuries

Scars

Culture

Class

Gender

Religion

We are products of influences

I want to live in an original world

Free from function

Injustice

Perpetual war

Catechisms teaching a rote morality

Bent horns blowing blues lines

Made me ruminative and literary

Philosophical and jaded

Depression

Heartbreak and mendacity

Made me understand

Why I can't settle or

Assimilate into convention

Love isn’t wild

It’s civilized

I’m a freedom fighter

For prerogative

Revolution like love

Both unrequited leak

Smoke

From fire trapped inside

Inhaling second hand ganja

Is not quite like being in love

But it starts innocent

Intoxicating

Bewitching

Lustful

Love like viruses

Infect weaknesses

Not a happy ever-after song

It’s felonious

I want to believe

But what does faith

Have to do with it
