Winston gets on his bike to launch canal poetry trail
Rochdale canal festival’s tireless poet in residence, Winston Plowes, has been cycling along the length of the canal, from Manchester to Sowerby Bridge, posting poems written by contributors to the festival’s poetry trail on each one of the canal’s 91 locks. Other poetry events that are part of the canal festival include:
Drop-in poetry workshops: Five ways to create an instant watery poem; 19 August, St Michaels Square, Mytholmroyd, 1.30pm-4pm); 20 August, Unitarian Church, Todmorden, 1pm-4pm; 24 August, Newton Heath library, 2pm-4pm.
Hebden Bridge poetry stroll 21 August 12.45pm for 1pm. Join Calderdale’s “poet on a boat” Winston Plowes for a relaxing stroll along the canal. Listen to poets read their work along the route of scenic canal and river locations, no strenuous walking and finishing around 3pm after a drink and chat in the town. For a chance to read at this event contact Winston and sign up in advance (A limited number of slots will also be made available on the day).
Horse-drawn boat trips. 22 August. Readings by Winston and festival guest poet Gaia Holmes on board a horse-drawn boat from Todmorden to Walsden (book in advance). 23 August, as 22nd, but the next leg of the trip from Walsden to Summit.

I always think that Winston has more energy than is normal for a mere mortal! Good on him! xx
