hi everyone
I posted this after watching an interview with song writer Roger Waters. He talks about other band members claiming they wrote parts of songs etc and claims that its to do with ego.
I cross referenced it with some of freuds works on the ego and a lot rings true.
We do re-invent our pasts.
Amazing stuff.
i think i am replying to cjd now , but maybe pete or maybe myself ,, this is a strange format for debate . . . . the loss of memory was more to do with being able to step away from my ego than my memories
Although there are things I'm trying not to think about - I don't think I want to forget - my memories are an essential part of who I am ... for better or worse. In any case - nature is increasingly taking care of memories.
Btw - Have you seen/read 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'?

if we could invent memory to suit our own ego,
i would lose mine x
wonderful! classic example. my grandfather/oil man in west texas, knew the Bushes, said they were scum, would have nothing to do with them. now poor dear 95 years old, and thinks they were friends, cause he gets christmas cards from them. He also claims to be friends with Burl Ives. I just listen, I figure at 95 its ok to remember wrong and tell tall tails. He does not remember the death of his son or his wife at times and asks where they are.sad but well thats the mind for you. great little thing you have done!
