To Unknow is to Dream
Hey friends
My latest entry was inspired by a debate I had with some friends recently. The basic principle of this was the theory that you would be happier uneducated than if you knew everything. The theory that Ignorance is bliss.
So enjoy the poem and if you would like to comment your thoughts on the subject then please do.
To Unknow is to dream
Knowledge is power
the power to teach
the power to heal
the power to learn
the power to destroy
Have we learned too much?
self aware to the point of criticism
brooding thoughts that we should improve
that those around should know better
why do they seem happy?
Perhaps ignorance is bliss
perhaps questioning only brings doubt
Perhaps doubt only brings questioning
Cats and Dogs seem happy
to learn for survival
Would I be happier uneducated?
if I could erase my knowledge
would I be me?
would I be content?
would I still dream?
Maybe to unknow is to dream.

Hi Matt,
I pondered on this for a while and it seems to me that this needs a little qualification. Whilst I agree that in some cases ignorance is bliss, for the most part it depends on not being aware of that ignorance, i.e. ignorance of ignorance!
The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool."
William Shakespeare
He who knows not and knows not that he knows not is a fool; avoid him.
He who knows not and knows that he knows not is a student; teach him.
He who knows and knows not that he knows is asleep; wake him.
He who knows and knows that he knows is a wise man; follow him.
