Enjoying their tasty meals and having a laugh.

An employee remarks as he passes pushing a mop,

"I'm sorry your not allowed to eat your own food here ! "So they swap.

Excellent. just for consistency, you might want to change 'were' to 'are'. as Harry says, succinct.
