how it is/isn't/wasn't/never will be
welcome to the way it was
is
always will be
and the way it never has been
or is to be
time opens all wounds - and rubs shit in them
time is forgotten and time is hoped for
time only is
in this time the clouds are our heroes
the architecture is our legend
the cars and streetlights our timeless survivors
from out here the atmosphere reflects off the skyscrapers like featureless faces
the glass and metal the infinite accessories adorning the perished skin
the face i see now slides off the eastern side of the building - molten
like an egg as it runs down the window of a beat down house on Halloween
the children used to be
but now are not
and never will again
we only are - or were - from out here
there is a boat drifting on the canal
like a mental patient wandering absently down the corridor of his ward at night
his brain trailing behind like cans tied to the back of a rented rolls-royce at a wedding
that was
and never will again
a stranded combine stands alone in a field
too scared to move it appears to tremble
like the social pariah at a party with an invisible gun to his head making him smile
the remnants of muck spread on the crops stink up the air
for nobody to smell
that nobody ever smelt
from out here
shit makes the grass grow

The title and opening of this one reminds me of the Metalica lyrics -
All that is / ever / ever was / will be / ever
Twisting, turning .
from "Through the never"
