Marks In The Sand
Marks In The Sand
Sitting in his ivory tower,
built on the sweat,
blood and bones
of those who helped him
build it – then, when they
had served their purpose,
sacrificed on the
gleaming altar of greed.
High ambition in this
glass and steel Babylon,
where His armies
were to take over the world.
Britannia slain but defiant
drops her shield and surrenders
but the black horse
is too strong for his coffers.
The pharaoh falls on his sword
and takes the priests
and acolytes with him
in a grotesque danse macabre.
The angel,
squared,
weeps
in despair.
