North-east publisher stages seaside festival to mark 40 years
The small press publisher Iron Press is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a five-day festival in the seaside town of Cullercoats in North Tyneside from 15-19 May. An event hosted by Kate Fox with readings from the Iron Book of New Humorous verse is sold out, but there are still tickets available for Ian McMillan on Friday night. A “sea haiku” trip in a fishing boat and a workshop at a fish and chip restaurant are also sellouts, but a snooker tournament involving Iron Press writers will be going on all weekend, as will a weekend book fair run by Inpress Books, the Newcastle-based organisation funded by Arts council England, that supports and represents around 40 independent presses nationwide.
