Blink of an Eye
In the blink of an eye, the world has gone by,
all in the fickle nature of love.
What was once the ‘here and now’ is history?
What was a ‘sea of possibilities’ is the ‘here and now’,
and the ‘sea of possibilities’ is a fork in the road.
Love is sewn, grown, or snuffed out, all in the blink of an eye.
“I love you”, slips from a million lips;
date rape drug slipped into drink,
another man doesn’t understand, “No”,
another husband abused by his wife,
another wife at the point of a knife.
Where is the love?
Proposal uttered, to have and to hold
Wedding day, ultimate bliss
In laws and outlaws queue up to kiss
Ecstasy in the union of two souls
Consummation of love to first born
There is the love?
Fumblings brought by a one night stand
Open ended outcomes;
Birth of a child unplanned, placed for adoption,
Cigarette burns on an abused child
No condoms opening to STD’s, Aids
Casualties of superficial love!
Fighting for your country in an insane war,
generations surrendered to death, just cause or no.
It always boils down to chairs around a negotiating table.
covered in the blood stained cloth of the dead.
Marble forests, we will remember them.
It this loves ultimate sacrifice?
Mother earth raped of her resources;
minerals, Rain Forest, ice sheets, shrink.
Pollutants fill the air like an arterial bleed,
ozone becoming a no zone, man’s lusts.
Mankind, the accused, stands in the dock
Terminal love, maybe!
Drugs flooding urban landscape
polluting the life’s well, puncturing vein’s.
Money lined pockets of the supplier, catalyst of death.
Guns and knives, parents bury their children.
Ethnic barriers don’t live here.
Is the today’s ultimate sacrifice of love?
In the blink of an eye, the world has gone by,
all in the fickle nature of love.
What was once the ‘here and now’ is history?
What was a ‘sea of possibilities’ is the ‘here and now’,
and the ‘sea of possibilities’ is a fork in the road.
Love is sewn, grown, or snuffed out, BLINK.
