Northern Lights (54th)
Northern Lights (54th)
The Northern Lights are ablaze tonight
And, oh, I’m feeling down.
You never could just treat me right,
You always played around.
This fallen angel’s lost his wings
And come, at last, to ground –
While all the while my world turns
And those Northern Lights go round.
The heavens glow with neon arcs
The skyline blazes bright.
From streamlined, adult, amusement parks
To the safety of back street lights.
I can compare your golden hair
To synthetic amber beams –
‘cos my lady with the starlight eyes
Comes back to me in dreams.
The Northern Lights go round.
The nights were cold on 54th
Those hard boys burned their badge
The girls were cruel on 54th
They all had revolvers in their bags
But days were good
And when we were young
We were one of the few
Sammy T and the Vincent-boy
And his brother
Well no one knew
On 54th - All on 54th
Sunday light Service shines
on glistening pew from behind
Ribald man, shirt in disarray
Sits and listens - Preachers pray
Silence of lizards
On 54th…… On 54th….54th…..54th
No one listened
No one cared
And we cried
On 54th
Who’s listening now….
Is anybody listening?
54th again!

Nice one! Very grungey/garagey - right up my street.
