ThePoetry Spoke August 15th - Open Mic & John Darwin

entry picture

ThePoetry Spoke returns -

Thursday the 15th of August - 8pm!

This time around it’s Open Mic

&  Guest Poet - John Darwin!

Gallagher Pub & Barbers

20 Chester Street

Birkenhead

Wirral

CH41 5DQ

Of our Guest -

Laconic or terse - pick your own adjective, John seems to weigh the value of each word while delivering poetry in shifting rhythms, at one moment staccato, the next legato.  John's poetry deals with the human condition; the sad and difficult, in love and loss.  He also celebrates the kind of normality that insulates us against the working world that would, if it could, turn us into 9 to 5 machines.

"We don't all have to be Alan Sugar, bumbling around in life is ok".

Turkey, the land, language and culture are also in evidence and a lot more besides too numerous to mention.  Whatever the broader theme though; I can't help thinking that human rights or the right to be human are never really far from the surface.

Achingly human poetry, the kilter of which often creates a tension.

Alongside our Guest -  the wonderful you!!!

In our Open Mic.

6 minute reading slots are typical - dependent on numbers - maybe longer.

A very warm welcome for all from far or near in an award winning location. Right next to public transport links – award winning CAMRA beer –

late licence – bright lights – stage – great pa – rowdy in a good way in the breaks –

pin drop quiet when you read :)

Don’t sit in with the idiots lantern!

To read your poetry, to hear music in words and words in music.
