Durban
Rain, beautiful, cooling
so pacifying, relentless.
Crowded green trees dripping
tears and dew-drops,
spattering in shiny puddles
around bricks, sticks and
bits of floating paper.
Amphibians blink.
The gnome carelessly throws a cast
hoping a tadpole - for - tea passes by.
Red hat in the downpour shining.
Bending, sharp leaves, dripping,
Rivulets, rivers, cascading little
shiny reflections.
Chaos, tiny crashes,
splashes across this small water.
A remote storm between distant lands.
A ship, smallest of ships,
yawing into a hard tempest.
The deck angled steeply,
still for a moment, then slowly
rolling to starboard and somehow
surviving these depths, here
on this enfolded water
where amphibians blink in the rain.
I’m again in my lonely garden.
Somehow passed
the depths of that strange deep
Frightening sea.
