entry picture

An acclaimed American war poet is guest at a special event to mark the 5th anniversary of the start of the Iraq war.

Brian Turner, who served in the US Army for seven years, will read his work at a Tongues&Grooves poetry and supper event to be held at The Florence Arms, Southsea at 7.30pm on Monday 16th March.

Brian Turner’s poems were included in a Voices in Wartime Anthology published in conjunction with a feature-length documentary film.  His book, Here, Bullet (Bloodaxe, 2007) was first published in the US in 2005, where it earned him nine major literary awards and fellowships.

His work has been described as ‘powerful poetry of witness, exceptional for its beauty, honesty and skill’.

Tickets at £10.00, to include buffet supper, are available from Maggie Sawkins of Tongues&Grooves on 023 9273 4180 or via www.tongues-and-grooves.org.uk.
