Fall Into Autumn
I wandered lonely as a scarecrow,
Braving the crisp October chill,
Watching over the fallow fields,
As the fleeting birds take their fill,
Feasting on fallen abandoned acorns,
In the shadow of a giant elegant oak,
On the horizon home fires are burning,
As a forest of chimneys bellow smoke,
My tattered old raincoat won’t let me down,
Stuffed with the warm golden harvest hay,
A hat and scarf make my ensemble complete,
As I brace myself for the sleet on the way,
I want to leap into autumn,
To kick up the leaves of red brown hue,
I want to crash into autumn,
And bathe in its early morning dew,
I want to fall into autumn,
Cool as a breeze that forever blew.
