entry picture

BBC Radio’s The Verb, presented by Ian McMillan, is offering three writers – from the north-east, north-west, and Yorkshire - the opportunity to generate a new work which reflects something unique about northern culture.

Poets, spoken word practitioners, fiction writers and artists – two aged 18-30, and one of any age - who use words and sound will each be given a £2,500 bursary to write a new piece for broadcast on The Verb.

Radio 3 voice coaches and producers will work alongside talent developers New Writing North and ARC in the north-east, Contact in the north-west and the Writing Squad in Yorkshire - to develop writing and performance skills.

The project runs from February to October 2014. Key dates include 22 March 2014 when participants will be taking part in an event at BBC MediaCity in Salford. Participants will be expected to participate in an Arvon course between April and August 2014.

The deadline for submission is: 5pm on Friday 13 December. You can find out how to apply here, and find out more detail about the project here
