when distant to huge to measure
to any object close at hand
you have to  measure your love with that for a while
all the longing
all the pining
all the wishing to bring them back
all the soul mining
will be worth it one day
such determination in Tom
to escape
the Irony of his idyllic Island
the swaying palms and beauty
the lap shores of the purest sand
mean nothing
the riches of any tapestry woven
means nothing
if no one
to share it.

and winston was dropped
as though he served his duty
and had to leave
he was the fling for a while
placed there for a purpose
a crutch and comfort
a reflecting mirror
a simple baseball, teddy bear, comfort blanket clutched
the longing of the huddled lonely man
was measured in years
he painted faces
of her
sang to her, worshipped her
longed, oh how he longed for her
such is the enormity of the human spirit
that that massive ocean was overcome
and to open but altered hands he runs
hoping she may be the same
and that all the tides
had not arranged
in any unfamiliar way
