A Million Scalps You Took
A Million Scalps You Took
You left Europe,
Escaping all imperialism
Found dead upon your monarchs lips.
You optioned for a freedom
Without taking full account,
You took the bulshit with you –
Without considering its people’s,
No better a white European man.
You claimed Independence
Day free from rule,
Then you killed the buffalo,
Chased the Indian from pastured
Lands to deserts, you never
Mourned the cull.
I saw the chief walk
Lonely through Wall Street
Felt his rage – so blind the people
Be,
America claiming sovereignty
Over lands already blessed.
The Twins bowed, in smoke
In fear, in flames and though be brave
Those who gambled jump,
I could sense hypocrisy in
Mourning, shouts of retribution
Gave a warning, and dawning on
America, the truth of Indian took.
The bulshit came with you
Cemented nomadic peoples
With casino’s, flats, trailer parks –
Replacing pride with pain,
Now you seek new worlds,
A brand new fall from grace,
Far off worlds where people slain
In new found space...............
................and you wonder why,
The compassionate, the intellect no longer
Cry, no longer mourn but wish,
Perspective!

Hi Mike; I'm of Native American descent and this really resonates with me. It is an insight into the loss of a culture that shows a rare understanding of the perspective of others.
