Storms force Alice Oswald to call off Manchester reading

Dramatic weather in the south-west has forced Alice Oswald to call off her appearance at Manchester’s Poets and Players on Saturday 8 February. Poets and Players said: “We are very sorry that extreme weather conditions affecting travel in Devon have forced us to postpone Alice Oswald’s reading. We will announce her replacements as soon as we can and hope to be able to announce a new date for her own reading.” High waves have undermined the main railway line at Dawlish in Devon, and repairs are expected to take a number of weeks. Jo Bell, who won the Charles Causley prize last week, will be reading in Oswald's place.
