Party
To be saved by the bell
at my door, the guests arrive
a glad sight, albeit overdue
marked by assurances, assuredly contrived
The dancing hall is restless
the partners move slowly, in accord
with gentle music flowing
along the best drinks any can afford
And my fascination thickens
as the friendships that they feign
brazenly are burst through
by the bubble of champagne
An interlude is sounded
so they trapse toward the table
giddily gorging themselves as gourmands
both as and more than they are able
Finally finished on the food
they resort to biting words
a caustic cavalcade carries on
unconcerned of what's overheard
Oh, but how I love them
for what humanity remains
It's restfully reassuring that,
like me, they're so seldom sane
The evening's prior decora
almost unfathomably return
toasting each other's heart and health
cautiously waiting their turn
They so pander to their desires
I see their fingers tease the mood
gesturing out all that can't be said
and forbid to even allude
Of every food and fanc
all have took their worth
and the evening sits a merry still
on the placid seas of chateauneuf
