Best Friends Are Never Boring
The three best friends you'll ever have are ME, MYSELF and I
A triumvirate of eager minds to see where thought can fly.
They deem it rather stupid if you never learn a thing
From the counsel of your elders, or the wisdom books can bring.
So they'll swot unashamedly through tomes of argument
To absorb, discuss and challenge the crux of their intent.
The goal all three are working on is self-philosophy
That necessary discipline to think – to act – to be.
‘Persuasion is a practised art’ say ME, MYSELF and I
As they twist throughout the labyrinth of Who, Where, When and Why.
Since stalemates are a waste of breath (as everybody knows)
These three will have some fierce debates (but never come to blows.)
They rehearse the arts of rhetoric according to each bent
To decipher old ideas - seeds of new enlightenment.
They work very hard together and never feel the need
To bow beneath the halter of another person’s creed.
But they learn also withdrawal - to respect each other’s need
For taste and touch, for sight and smell, and Silence of the Freed.
