Children

Scurrying like rats in the sewers,
Swiftly hiding from the flashlight.

Tree-climbing tailess monkeys,
Grinning mischievously down you.

An orchestra of laughing, screaming, crying, playing,
With a mad conductor presiding over them.

A football, a skate board, a stone, a stick, a leaf.
Digging in dirt or becoming superheroes.

Ignoring pleas for calm and quiet;
Unwilling to tidy, clean or dress.

Leaving behind a trail, a mess -
Clothes; books; bags; toys and pens.

Home to sticky taped cardboard creations;
Left scattered, half complete or broken.

Finally worn out, collasped, watching tv,
Thumb-sucking, teddy-cuddling monsters.

Thanks for the comments, appreciated. I have corrected the couple of typos.

Yes, I'll take the change on board and a little think about it. Thanks, Cynthia.

A good poem, capturing kids really well. I hope you receive lots of comments. I enjoyed it very much.

May I submit one suggestion?

'Scurrying like rats in the sewers
Swiftly hiding from the flashlight....'

which starts the lines off at a good clip, instead of a bit of a limp.

Perhaps you mean: 'mischievously down at you'?
