Missing a Friend

entry picture

O how I miss you, old friend -

Like the leaf misses its branch,

Like the sand misses the sea,

Like the sky misses the rainbow,

Like sadness misses salt tears.

When I see you in fleeting moments -

I am a tree finding its roots,

I am a cloud finding its storm,

I am a drop finding its ocean,

I am a smile finding its bliss.

And when I leave you all over again -

A flower wilts and dies alone,

A glass shatters against the floor,

Emptiness fills up my soul,

A sun sets over an arctic desert.

the repeating here works really well and gives it a beat and doesn't jar (which does happen with this kind of trick sometimes).

good stuff

What a heartfelt, moving poem Marie-Anne, it's really quite beautiful. And the Maya Angelou quote you gave Natalie, goes so well with it. The absence of some people hurts so much.
