Write Out Loud's Risk a Verse gets back on track in Huddersfield tonight
Beeching, Betjeman, and Burma’s death railway are lined up for Risk a Verse adherents on Thursday 26 March as Write Out Loud’s monthly poetry night in Huddersfield gets back on track with renewed poetic licence, following a break in February caused by host Julian Jordon’s US poetry adventures*.
Alongside its regular talented open-floor readers, Greg Freeman has agreed to travel north as our guest poet and read from his recently-published pamphlet collection, Trainspotters, that has received superb reviews from, among others, Brian Patten and Tamar Yoseloff. On Monday Greg launched his pamphlet down south at King’s Cross station’s Parcel Yard pub with David Cooke and Alison Hill as guest poets.
Huddersfield’s Red and Green Club venue at Milnsbridge is overseen by “professor of trainspotting” Prof Paul Salveson, community rail consultant, and expert on dialect poetry and that of Walt Whitman. His monthly newsletter is essential reading for railway buffs and industry experts, so a good turnout is expected. For the last guest, Louise Fazackerley, it was standing room only, so you are urged to arrive early.
All are welcome to read a poem or two (depends on numbers) or just go along and listen. Railway poems – or any other - welcome. More details and Map
