After Dark

After Dark

A thousand miles an hour they move,

in between the twilight trees and gangster shadows

and I'm raped once again,

the pain remaining the next

day and the next and the next and the next.

This isn't schizophrenia for all

the doctors care,

this is limbo land where the damned

skulk, dodge and fear light and photo flash

and I'm brave to stare the demons down.

The EVP warned me,

Told me of the silent spirits that

linger on the edge of vision

and I'm at their mercy as they

squeeze my brain and tickle the muscle

of my heart,

dipping their icy fingers coldly

beyond the bloodied membrane

of a man going stark.
