DEUTERONOMY CALLS
(As Verger at Selby Abbey one of my responsibilities is to ensure the Eternal Sanctuary candle remains lit. The first two lines are familiar to me so I may have poached them. Suggestions from whom?)
God made the hawk; He made the dove
And neither with a lesser love;
So hence there can be little doubt
He made me let the candle out.

I have scored some notable successes with the Almighty, Graham, but he's been a bit too busy lately for my petitioning. And I would agree I don't seem to fit the mould of verger as others do.
Natalie, this is a really interesting theosophical question. I hold the principle of personal responsibility quite dear so your thoughts on Divine Determinism are a bit of a challenge. I suppose I can legitimately take the position that God has imbued me with the capacity to decide (or forget) ie he given me the choice of being conscientious or a Dozey get. (Assuming, that is, I believe in God).
