Apple Carts and Upsets
Bouazizi wanted a life of dignity
nothing unusual really, just education for his sisters
and little things that one would take for granted
were free.
The Arab Spring came on, Twitter on fire
Facebook ran cold with blood of young men
heads cracked open,
brotherhood defined better than any religion could
word it
selfies halted for a brief moment
armchair likers waking up to people taking control
of their lives, the race of ordinary people
with ordinary desires
youth with dreams, passion and a better world
not to plant seeds of destruction
but just lead mundane lives
going about business as usual.
A young Tunisian led the way
a fruit seller, vendor
an ordinary man, wishing to lead an ordinary life.
His little cart stands in the square,
a reminder
immortalized in history
but fading.
Yes, some people do get upset
for apple carts can topple governments
and dictators, domino effects
going down in books of history
through a burning man.
