END OF THE LINE
The heat of a sultry summers day
and the news wasn’t good,
you were going away.
Vow’s made by the lovers brook
are just trickling memories
of a love that you took.
A heart that once was full of life
is now but an empty shell
on the edge of a knife.
A vignette, closing in on a world,
as into the deep dark abyss
my mind was hurled.
Dreams and goals we shared as a bond
are slowly creeping away
as thief, to abscond.
The feelings, the love of life we shared,
the togetherness, the passion
was beyond compare.
All drifting by on the hands of time
and forever out of reach,
no longer mine.
I reach out to you a last trembling hand
but you slip through my fingers
like soft silken sand.
I have nought but love as a parting gift,
the pride that at one time
your heart I could lift.
A memory will live for years to come,
as we finally reach the end
and all is said and done.
