unpublished
Here I am with all my poems unpublished.
A two bit poet with nothing but youth and a strong heart to go for it.
People won’t take me seriously without being published by a big poetry press
but to do that I have to be published by non existent poetry magazines
and it cause me heartache and stress.
Nevertheless I send my poems away
I get more rejection letters day by day.
Maybe I ought to print a chap book or two,
To make a bit of money on the side
But even then the poetry establishment won’t give me a look
I can however post them on the web
But if I enter them into poetry competitions I will have to write new ones instead
Are these people crooks?
Why do they want with an entrance fee?
No wonder they can put up huge prizes and still make a profit
I will scoff at it
until I get recognised for having some talent.
In this poetry scene I give my all
but I still hit the proverbial wall
with my head!
I should have taken up another pastime instead
accused of being a hobbyist poet all of my days
at least I get a good response from some
this leaves me feeling happy and not so glum!

Most of us know exactly what you mean. You have made some good points. If I may be blunt, work this into a more 'poetic' format even if a tortured one. For example, set your margins and write your lines (without justification) to lie exactly within those boundaries, like fiction. Every three or four lines drop a double space to make a new 'verse'. It's a major cheat technique, but it's valid, and actually quite hard to do well. It often requires lots of regrouping to 'fit the format'. Try it.
Cynthia ... and thanks for your comments on my work, Daniel.
