Young poets aged from seven to 25 are being invited to submit up to four lines of poetry in English or Welsh to help celebrate Dylan Thomas Day, with 100 lines chosen from the submitted entries to create Dylan’s Great Poem. The theme for this year’s competition is “hands”, after the Dylan Thomas poem ‘The Hand That Signed The Paper.’ The opening date for submissions is 28 April, and the deadline is 5 May. More details. This year, selected entrants to Dylan’s Great Poem, who are aged between 11 and 17 and living in Wales, will be invited to a poetry writing masterclass to work on entries to the Poetry Society’s Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award. International Dylan Thomas Day is on May 14, the date Under Milk Wood was first read on stage in New York, in 1953.
