From The Light Into The Dark
You stand before an empty horizon,
The silhouette of the trees running sharply across the bottom of the sky,
Eyes fixed on those soulless, black shapes in the distance.
Your gaze wonders up – slowly. The sky transforms before you
From the light into the dark.
The moon hangs – trapped in the dawn of engulfment,
The ground beneath you is dim – stretching to meet the light.
The orange haze burns in the distance – fading,
The light lethargically sweeping away before you,
You start to move towards it – paradoxically you embark
From the light, into the dark.
You trudge across the field of black despair,
Every step you take the further away the sun has raced,
The light forever being in the distance.
You look up at the night sky – breathless and helpless,
The silhouettes now merging into a swarm of nothingness,
You try to seek comfort in capturing the horizon.
From the light, into the dark…- but there is no more light – extinguished by the boundless black mist you are trapped in,
You gaze up into the sky once more, the darkness melts onto your face
You do not resist – you accept.
From the dark, into the dark.
