Between A Rock & A Hard Place
Between A Rock & A Hard Place
Trust me
said the man I didn’t trust
Stay in
every part of me
is against
what he stands for
but he has support
from the people
that I trust
Trust me
said the man I didn’t trust
Get out
every part of me
is against
what he stands for
but my heart aches
for what I believe
to be right
Don’t trust him
said the man I trust
Stay In
my head
and my heart
turning on each other
fighting to be heard
my head
and my heart
Don’t trust him
said the man I trust
Get out
my head
and my heart
aching for betrayal
pleading for domination
my head
and my heart
so
I lay aside trust
lay aside loyalty
lay aside personality
lay aside the human face
lay aside charisma
lay aside the politics
the day dawns
and my cross
goes where it always
was going
all the rest
is just circus
just white noise
just media
manipulation
get rid of the doubt
do not blame
do not look for forgiveness
we are individuals
our choice is ours
it can be flawed
it can be faultless
but in the end
we live with it
in the end
we decide

Ian,
Probably a true account of the minds of the majority as
we approach the big vote.
The problem is that those two last little stanzas (with which you have ended so succinctly) sound so chillingly final.
