The Mongrel
Some say I am a mongrel
Because I have a mixture in my blood
One part Scottish
One part Wiltshire
One part Yorkshire
One part Wales
I was born and bred in Sherwood Forest
North Notts to be precise
In Bassetlaw District Council
In Victoria Hospital
That is no more
Now I know all about the cutbacks
the death of old King Coal
the closure of the railways
the closure of the mines
If there is to be another war will it be a postcode lottery
wider than the ocean deeper than the sea
when the sky is blue the sea is green
or so the story goes
where would we be in a sea of red
in it up to our necks indeed
Come on you blue and white wizards
Put the mongrel on the Kop
No more tears for the 97
Sing England for the cup.
