the choking, RIDERS ON STORM
This is a blog and a poem.
I recently had what I thought was a very succesfull slot at 'the riders on the storm'
Afterwards I attended a party at the Dog pub in Bolton.
It was here that I realised (yet again) how important the write out loud team have been in helping myself and other new poets flourish.
It was this un-vented emotion that caused me to become choked with it.
Louise made a very salient point
and that there are so many types of love
for I cannot substitute any other word
when expressing gratitude
for what people havce given
and have asked nothing in return
palms outstretched
they helped many
and silent
perhaps unaware
but never unappreciated
they may lay down
but in rest may they know
actions
like ripples
reached
beyond thier intention
so celebration
i ask them
be proud
in this time now
for everything done.
and all wonderful.
and as a seed would one day become
the father of so many
all those saplings swayed
i therfore cannot delay
and write this list
of dedication
To all who helped me achieve something tangible.
My special thanks to everyone at WOL
Darren Thomas, Dave Morgan, Julien Jordan, Paul Blackburn, James Hartnell, Bill Briely, Don Parry, Allan,Scott, Alabaster, Darren W and all the rest of you lot that know me (sorry if I missed anyone im typing fast today) thanking you for taking the time and interest to encourage me.
Sophie, Val C, Ros, Maggie, Louise, Mel, Elaine, Clarissa the list goes on..................
Its easier to tell the girls!
heres the poem.
The Choking men
The choking man
Has emotion
Stuck in his throat
never sees the light
Of words
Just sits there unspoken
Emotion for the choking man
He with tightened lips
in fidget hand gestures
grips the missing.
He cant say it.
Yet with every reaction
Nature answers equal
And opposite
There sits
an army of men who helped.
A list the length of silence
Coached us all.
so many we wish to thank
But that one missing word
Never spoken sober
Love of another
Yet even when enlightened,
by female wisdom in these things
that love, so many types
need not dent pride
Still difficult.
A mountain easier to conquer
than loving the same man.
