'Tranquil' by Sharvari is Write Out Loud's Poem of the Week

entry picture

The new Write Out Loud Poem of the Week is ‘Tranquil’ by Sharvari, a poet from India who says on her profile page that she would like to learn more about poetry via Write Out Loud. Describing herself as an “amateur poet” with “lots to learn”, and poetry as a "lost hobby", in response to questions she cited Wordsworth and the renowned Indian poet Rabindrath Tagore and Nobel prize winner as important influences. This is what she told us:

How long has poetry been a part of your life?

Poetry has been my interest since my childhood, I always loved the poem ‘Daffodils’ by William Wordsworth. This poem has been a great influence to me as I have abundant love for nature.

If you could only have one poet’s work to read which one would you choose?

It would be Rabindranath Tagore, who is a great poet from india. His work delights my heart and mind, not to forget his great composition, India's national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ which is eloquent  and gives goosebumps to every Indian.

Do you perform your work and if so, what advice would you give to a young poet just starting out?

I am an amateur poet myself and have lots to learn. But my suggestion for anyone who wants to write is, just write your heart out on whatever inspires you and maybe one day your work will inspire others.

What was the inspiration for this poem’s title?

The inspiration for this poem was a photograph of my friend. The inspiration for the title is from the calmness that serene nature can bring to one’s life.

TRANQUIL

by Sharvari

Between the beautiful sky & me.

There is so much of tranquillity ...

My lips are sealed. but, mind calls out loud.

Distant it appears as though beautiful sea touches the sky..

I wonder if they really meet?

Between the beautiful sky and me

with the sand under my feet

Silence ... But discussion does not stop between my mind & heart

Between the beautiful sky & me.

In the quiet evening, as I hear only my heart beat,

The sun sets as it heals my soul..

I could not have felt more complete.

Well done, and a warm welcome to a great site. May you never lose that sensitivity to, and mind-filling grace of, 'natural beauty'.

You certainly need to read this poem more than once. For me, it is the rhythm of it, not just the words. It makes me think I can hear the sea.

In this rather troubled world we are prone to miss the beauty that is all around us. With Tranquil, you make us think and better still wonder at it!

Well done and keep writing, there is plenty of beauty to go around.
