Relativity
Relativity
Sometimes when we’re together
I don’t feel like a family of one
One of us utters a reflective phrase and the other
Picks up pitch and tune and rhythm
To meet somewhere in a chord with memory
And philosophical empathy
Themes in our rotation lead to rendezvous’ of Soul
Sometimes in the house of Riley
Other times in houses without walls:
Houses not made by hand – dwellings without
Foundations or ceilings – free floating
Particulars in our narratives surrender to touchstones
Burning with kinship
What happens then is more complicated
Than either of us intended and a primal dance ensues
Relativity makes everything new over and over again
We go to spaces we made with wills
Taking ourselves out of other people’s hands
Because we need our lives back from prerogatives
That prevent grace from being a quality in dance
Moving without a hitch is what I long for
There’s a step I need to make that defies gravity
I breathe deeply praying for buoyancy
In space beneath my weight
