A bold statement of steel and copper 
Towers above the northern road 
Northumberland's way of facing its future 
Shows their miners too, the respect they're owed 
 
Every nut and bolt and welded sheet 
Plays its part in her sculptured grace 
A testament to modern art 
A unique welcome, a grand embrace 
 
A beacon of hope in a sea of fear, 
Or a grotesque beast which spoils the view?  
On my journeys north, I for one 
Enjoy the sight of her rusty hue
