A Mum

entry picture

I used to see you in the kitchen

Running around with messy hair

No makeup and no time for tea

Not a second you had to spare

I used to see you in the bathroom

Trying to get little teeth brushed

Stubborn little darlings

Not understanding the blur and rush

I used to see you in the living room

Trying to find that missing shoe

There’s no time to find it

Wellington boots will have to do!

I used to see you at the school

Walking us up to the gates

Said goodbye with a kiss

Our education awaits

I used to come home

And dump my bag in the hall

You would go and pick it up

And would not get mad at all

I used to sit at the table

And fuss about my dinner

You’d argue that I liked it last week

But I was always the winner

I used to go get ready for bed

And sometimes I would fight

I hated not being able to stay up late

But you were always right

I know I took you for granted

I miss you every day

But I know you’re still with me

Helping me along the way
