Drowning
Swept on a tide both high and low
often cast beneath its crushing weight
Drenched, gasping and struggling to survive
only to be overwhelmed again by another tide
Currents flowing this way and that
desperate to gain some control
Cold streams flow do bring a shiver
night´s dark shadow does linger
A moon glistens on a surface of unending spray
nothing to hold, all is taken away
The depths do beckon far below
a darker landscape too foreboding to know
Alone, consumed by a fearful dread
thoughts hurled about in my deafening head
Images of life flicker by as the ocean does rise
This surely is the final stroke of effort supreme
gasping and breathless, energy gone
Darkness both in and out, no other soul in sight
All is lost as the bridge does sink
All is gone, nothing lingers still
Out of sight, a tunnel of darkness awaits
Chaos of which no sense endures
Purpose spent, reason gone, to a death bed of sand
I flounder to eternal rest and then on

I really liked this one. It really gives the sense of drowning.
Was it meant to be taken literally, or as a metaphor? Either way it read well.
