Befuddled
Befuddled
As I strolled up the street
who was it I should meet?
Frail, distrait and on her own
she was making her way home
Tall, willowy with wisps of white hair
she wandered along without much care
Then I noticed her floral night dress
she was looking somewhat in a mess
Hello Grandma, I said with a smile
She replied that she had walked a mile
Everyone in the street called her gran or nan
for none of us were related, no not even one
I could sense that something was not quite right
and walked her home and out of sight
Once indoors the curtains were drawn
the room was dark which was not the norm
Nan whispered in my ear, tonight there is no moon
which means they will be here quite soon
Who is they I asked of Nan
to which she replied, the bloody German
I sat in silence and thought on
then I turned the TV on
Nan smiled now quite engrossed
as she saw Bill and Ben, the Flower Pot Men
a programme she loved the most
They won´t come tonight, I shall read
at this I heard Bill and Ben say Weed

Colin, Thank you for this. It is an assessment of what is happening and the possible outcome of technology. There is a guy, whose name escapes me at present, but he is tragically confined to a wheel chair and yet despite his disability he is a foremost scientist and gifted with perspicacity. He recently made a statement that technology would destroy humanity. Many people with religious beliefs are convinced that we are living in the End Times. There is a lot to think about here. In the span of my own life time I never envisaged a society so advanced. A family of four sitting at a table for lunch, all on their mobiles and not one word of conversation between them. My 9 year old nephew who seldom converses but is permanently transifixed by TV or his latest Play Station. You are right it is scary. Thanks. Keith
