A Transitory World
A Transitory World
Participants in a vast unfolding drama
set on a revolving stage of swirling beauty
Tossed and buffeted, often cast aside
In and out of love we glide
to laugh, smile and solemnly lament
To engage in destruction and endless wars
atrocities of unspeakable horror
then to dance to a rhythm of love
to see the fox hunt and the dove to fly
In poverty and starvation, completely without
Up in the clouds our globe below
and in ocean´s depths do monsters search
Children learn, mature then fly the nest
Those who are old left to say goodbye
Cities built in classical style
followed by glass towers that touch the sky
Meadows and hillsides hear the birds that sing
Mountains and ravines covered in a fall of Spring snow
Crazed assassins plan to kill and maim
as scientists develop new strains
to eradicate disease and keep us alive
when many in misery wish only to die
A scorching sun leaves the earth brown and parched
Rains to flood, irrigate and destroy
Some die young as others die old
many are homeless, hopelessly forsaken and lost
Substances give some relief
Life is a fleeting passing of eternal time
most of which is out of reach
